Will the Passing of Queen Elizabeth Affect the Life in the UK Test?

On 8 September 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed away, marking the end of her historic reign. Since then, many candidates preparing for the Life in the UK Test have wondered: will questions about the Queen or the Royal Family still appear in the test?

The short answer is: no.

The Stationery Office (TSO), which publishes the official Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents (3rd edition) and related materials for the Home Office, has confirmed that references to Queen Elizabeth II and the Monarchy in earlier editions are now outdated. These sections have been removed from recent printings of the handbook.

Although newer copies of the handbook include updated information about the passing of Queen Elizabeth and the succession of

His Majesty King Charles III, it’s important to note that questions about King Charles III and the current Royal Family are not part of the official Life in the UK Test at this time.

This is because the current test is still based on the 3rd edition of the handbook, and the official question bank does not include these changes.

If you are preparing for your Life in the UK Test, you should focus on the content from the official 3rd edition handbook, as this remains the approved study material.
